ADVANCE SCOUT: 5 Books to Look For This Wednesday (2/6/13)

Each week, the Capeless Crew picks out those books that we think are most worthy of your dollars and attention. Without further ado, here are this week’s picks!

Green Arrow 17“GREEN ARROW#17″
Fresh start for the emerald archer? Yes please! With a new creative team and a new storyline we’ll see if DC can match the (well deserved) hype of Marvel’s greatest marksman. With rising star Jeff Lemire at the helm, the book is sure to be intelligently composed, but can Ollie reclaim his crown as comics’ top bowslinger?

PHSTR_Cv5“PHANTOM STRANGER #5″
Is the Phantom Stranger capable of atoning for his past or of finding the redemption he seeks? Our own Colin Hollister talked with writer J.M. DeMatteis last week and found him to be a great believer in redemption. Will comics’ own Judas find his way?

AVENGERS5“AVENGERS #5″
These days it seems like there is an Avengers book coming every week. This month, that’s been close to true. Jonathan Hickman’s run has met with mixed reviews, but the last issue set the stage for the ongoing struggle of the series, as the expanded roster contends with the aftermath of the evolution bombs that were set off all over the planet.

newavengers3“NEW AVENGERS #3″
For once, the release of the two sides of Hickman’s Avengers epic coincide in the same week. The dynamic he has been building among Marvel’s truly top-tier “world leader” super-heroes has been interesting to watch, and will surely become more interesting as it begins to break down. This is a monthly must-read.

mudman06“MUDMAN #6″
Capeless’ Jeff Hayes calls this issue the authors “love letters to the super heroes of youth”, and that is truly the case. Writer/artist Paul Grist is crafting a splendid throwback tale that continues to delight audiences. In case you’re curious before you head to the store, check out Jeff’s advance review HERE.
